This page uses the name old name, Advanced Roadmaps, instead of Plans.
Advanced Roadmaps started life as a plugin made by an external company before being acquired by Atlassian. While it looked Jira-esque, it used it’s own navigation pattern. To standardize the IX patterns, we redesigned the navigation in Advanced Roadmaps to match the same design language used by Jira at large.
To validate that our new navigation was an improvement over the old, I was tasked with creating an Early Access Period plan. Through the feedback and interactions, we would then refine the experience before then migrating all customers into the new experience.

To achieve this, I:
- defined key points of the user journey throughout this Early Access Period
- wrote content and visualized the journey using pre-made assets in Figma
- presented work to stakeholders to get resourcing and approvals
- triaged and prioritized feedback to solve most impactful design-related issues
- identified areas of conflict that may impact customer sentiment during rollout
What’s shared below is documentation from that process. It includes:
- the strategy outline for the Early Access Period, plus
- design assets
- the metrics by which we’ll measure success
- an exploration of whether another competing rollout might interfere with this, including usage statistics and timeline comparisons
- an analysis of the feedback we’d received to that point in the Early Access Period, and recommendations about what actions to take
As a result of this work, the Early Access Period was considered successful:
- we fixed several issues raised by users
- made small adjustments based on feedback then
- rolled the interface out to everyone – see New Navigation Onboarding tour
